Julian N. Stern practices corporate law, primarily on behalf of high-technology businesses.
For the past thirty years, Mr. Stern has focused his practice on high-technology and health-related companies. He has extensive experience in the U.S. and foreign licensing of patents and other proprietary rights by and to high- technology companies, as well as the exploitation of their technology through joint venture, corporate partnering, research and development and distribution agreements. Mr. Stern has also been involved in a number of creative financing arrangements for his high-technology clients. He is a past Chair of Heller Ehrman and served on its executive committee for more than 20 years.
Mr. Stern was the incorporator of ALZA Corporation and has served as its Secretary and a director since its founding until its merger with Johnson and Johnson. He was the incorporator of Affymax and served as its Secretary and a managing director from inception until its acquisition by Glaxo. He was also the incorporator of Cetus Corporation and served as its Secretary since incorporation and as a director until its acquisition by Chiron and has been an advisory director of Chiron. He is the incorporator of A.P. Pharma, Inc. and Maxygen, Inc. and has served as their Secretary since their incorporation, as well as being secretary and director of a number of privately held high-technology companies.
