Heller Ehrman attorneys have handled cases in which disabled travelers sued airlines for refusal to accommodate wheelchairs. In Lacayo v. Honig, the firm was co-counsel in a challenge to the abusive treatment of disabled children in the California public schools.

This successful class action led to the development of state and local regulations to protect special education students from discriminatory and inappropriate practices in the public schools.
